Just having a bit of fun with the laser cutter, and making example resources for my design classes.
I have been improving my CAD and 3D printing skills! Haha I started with a finished model that I downloaded from ThiniVerse, but had to modify it for our school’s printers which could not handle the job. Had to rebuild a couple parts from scratch. Then I built the stand also. It’s been fun…. Unfortunately the PLA material shrank during the process and several parts don’t fit right, but I’ll try to… Read More
I added a blue acrylic window and a wood frame. I’m debating on a few more exterior changes or additions, not sure yet. Again, I “found” the house online, but made the rest. I easily could have designed the house, probably should have, but I was in a hurry! Lol
Been building a LED light box with a Halloween them. So far, I’m pretty please with it, though it’s far from done. I was inspired by some the great work my 7th grade students have made in their design class. I’m also hoping that this Light box will inspire them next year to make something even better than what they did this year.
Not yet complete, but I just made a smile for a TU chocolate. I’ll mix the chocolate soon. 🙂
Don’t ask me why, but I want these so bad! Ban Dai makes the coolest toys. I found these in Takashimaya. I did not buy them if course, as everything in Takashimaya is at least twice as expensive as it should be. Maybe I’ll hunt TaoBao later.
In my grade 7 Design classes, my students are designing and building LED USB night lights. Last year was the first time I taught this unit and I thought they made some great products, but this year I am pushing them to achieve something much greater. As a model to inspire them, I built this night light using Illustrator, CAM, 3mm plywood and acrylic, along with an LED light strip. It’s really… Read More
Today, two different grade 6 students presented me some images they made for my Birthday. One is a soccer card, and the other is Jedi Sutton cause he said I’m just that awesome! 🙂 I love these kids, so amazing and thoughtful.
I have not decided what to do next. Stain it, paint the house colors on the background, or sand it down and hang it. Maybe frame it in a box? too many choices….. And no, it’s not for sale, that would be a copywriter infringement… I’m making this for myself, to hang in my classroom and maybe at home 🙂
Give a class of 6th graders 50 minutes to design and then 3D print a phone stand, and they can come up with some great ideas. The design challenge I gave them was to design and print a phone stand, that can hold their phones in both portrait and landscape orientation, and be printable in under 2.5 hours, which set’s a limitation on material usage. Here are 2 of my favorite designs… Read More
